Figure 1. CNC Automatic Bore Hone (ABH) for the Air Force
The Air Force needs an automated system for honing various shapes of
taper in smooth-bore tubes. Under a
Phase I SBIR contract with the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), we demonstrated
critical components of a Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) Automatic Bore
Hone (ABH, see Figure 1 above) to meet Air Force needs. In Phase II, we will demonstrate a prototype
ABH by honing required diameter profiles in 3.0 to 8.0 inch-diameter tubes with
lengths up to 200 feet.
