Figure 1. Free Piston Cryogenic Pump (FPCP) for LNG Systems on Heavy Vehicles
In Phase II of a project for the Department of Energy (DOE), we optimized the design of our Free Piston Cryogenic Pump (FPCP) to maximize performance and efficiency, and minimize costs for volume production. We tested our FPCP in a prototype LNG system for heavy vehicles. In Phase I of the project, we demonstrate the suitability of our FPCP for LNG systems on heavy vehicles by pumping 14 ml/s of liquid nitrogen to a pressure of 330 psig. (Figure 1 above shows our test set-up.)
